  • 03/19/2010 11:05 PM:Important Information regarding the future of Arsenal Soccer at the Knox Farm State Park
Many of you are probably aware that the State has plans to close Knox Park. Approximately 10 of the 630 acres of the park is home to all of our U10 to U19 House and Travel fields. Without that space we of course would need to review the entire program and potentially make some hard choices on the offering for 2010. It would be virtually impossible for us to conduct business as usual without use of the 7 fields we have at Knox.

That being said we are very hopeful that we will be able to work with our Town officials to ensure continuation of use of the soccer field area at Knox.

Knox Park contains the home fields for the Aurora Arsenal Soccer club. One of the top soccer clubs in WNY. The club provides a recreational opportunity for almost 1000 area youth soccer players from ages 5 to 19. Between the House and Travel divisions there are 120 coaches and 67 teams which compete every year from April to August. In addition over 100 Travel teams from throughout WNY come to Knox to play Aurora Arsenal travel teams. Any closure of the Knox Park and fields would be huge loss for the youth in Aurora and all of WNY.

In addition the Aurora Arsenal also sponsors a coed over 30 Adult league which serves an additional 4 teams comprising of approximately 60 players. The area Men’s Arsenal team and the East Aurora High School boys and girls have also used Knox over the past several years on an as needed basis. The use last season by the EA HS teams was necessitated by deteriorating field conditions at the HS. The games that were moved were key playoff games thus the move was critical to both team’s success.

Facts about the size of the Club can be found at the Club Facts page. Raymond M. Wrazen
